is now in its 25th year. It’s an open prize exhibition with no set categories. Artists may create in any media (except video). Submissions are now open until 25 June.
The Gala Opening Night for the exhibition at the Matthew Flinders Gallery is Friday 14 July. The event will run until 4 August. The first prize is a whopping $5000. The second prize is $2000. There are also two Highly Commended prizes of $500, plus a $500 People’s Choice prize and a $500 prize for BICAS Members.
The organising committee chairman, Stephanie White, said that the event relied for its success on the generosity of local sponsors. She pointed out that there are daily artist demonstrations at the centre during the exhibition to create an interactive vibe. Some of these artists in attendance are past Matthew Flinders Art Prize winners. The gallery (which the art prize named is after), is a gathering place and focus for local and visiting artists from around the region and interstate. The entry fee is $40 per piece for BICAS members and $50 for non-members. There is a maximum of two artworks per artist allowed.
All details are on the entry form that can be downloaded from the Bribie Island Community Arts Centre’s website. Forms can also be collected from the Arts Centre at 191 Sunderland Drive Banksia Beach, Bribie and its open Tuesday to Saturday from 9.00 am to 4.00 pm and on Sunday from 9.00 am to 10.00 pm. For further information contact the Venue Manager, Julie Thomson, on 07 3408 9288.

About the exhibition
Through this exhibition, Congdon provides an intimate portrait of his life. His artworks focus on the locations and scenes from his everyday experiences. Imbued with his personality, No thrills shares irreverent yet honest interpretations of Congdon’s experience living alone, and its associated feelings of idleness, boredom and loneliness. You will be brought into Congdon’s living room, taxi cab and the neighbourhood streets tucked away from Redcliffe’s tourist hotspots.

Limited places available for all workshops, book online or contact the gallery for queries and to secure your spot.
